Ceri Staples

Ceri has been a midwife since 2004, working as a rotational midwife for several years before becoming a labour ward co-ordinator in 2015 & more recently appointed as the FetaI Monitoring Lead within her Trust. In addition to these roles she is a Newborn Life Support instructor, providing support & training to her midwifery & medical colleagues & she instructs on her Trust obstetric emergency study day.

Ceri was a Supervisor of Midwives until its removal from statute in 2017, ensuring both the provision of safe, high quality maternity services and the regulation of midwifery practice. She completed investigations following concerns with midwifery practice & supporting midwives with areas of practice development and clinical support.  She has an interest in risk management & has completed serious incident reviews on a regular basis.  She is also an MBBRACE-UK midwife assessor, where she reviews the care women received in relation to existing relevant guidance and identify areas of care where improved practice in the future might prevent women’s deaths or other severe outcomes
