Obstetrician

Austin is Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, & former Clinical Director of Women’s Services at St George’s University Hospital, London. His clinical & research interests include intrapartum fetal monitoring, hypoxia-inflammation interactions, subclinical perinatal infections, and extreme preterm birth. He led the implementation of fetal ECG (STAN) monitoring at St George’s University Hospital & pioneered physiological approach to fetal monitoring. He is a member of The Study Group of Intrapartum Fetal Monitoring, Fetal and Neonatal Physiological Society, Fetal Signal Processing & Monitoring (SPaM) Group, and European Society of Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. He acts as an Expert Advisor to the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE), Specialty Advisor to the Care Quality Commission (CQC), & for 10 years, 2007 – 2017, was scientific editor for British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, & Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
