Mr John Bell qualified as a midwife in 2006, and has gained in-depth experience spanning all areas of midwifery practice in a number of care settings. He currently manages both community and inpatient maternity services at BSUH, which cares for approximately 6000 women giving birth each year serving a diverse community.
His specialist interests are community midwifery particularly homebirths, he currently runs a service supporting women who choose to birth at home where care choices deviate from current guidance and protocols. He has also trained as an (ALSO) Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Instructor and has comprehensive experience in high-risk midwifery care and obstetric emergency management. He also leads on the complaints management for the trust as part of the governance team and is regularly involved in audit, case reviews and protocol updating for maternity services. He was also until recently lead research midwife for BSUH and research champion for Kent, Surrey and Sussex and oversaw both academic and commercial studies in reproductive health and childbirth to better inform clinical practice.
