Dear Families,

On Saturday 5th September, the Independent Review of Maternity and Neonatal Services at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust will hold its first family meeting in Sussex.

The Review invites all families who feel able to come forward and participate to attend September’s meeting. Listening to family voices is essential in helping the Review to understand the harm that has occurred, and what must change.

What is the family meeting for?

This meeting will provide families with an important opportunity to meet the Review team, learn what an Ockenden Independent Review involves, understand how they can take part if they choose to, ask questions about the process, and crucially contribute to the development of the Review’s Terms of Reference (ToR). 

Hearing directly from families at this early stage is essential so that the Review reflects the experiences and perspectives of those most affected.

Date: Saturday 5 September 2026 

Schedule:

• 10:00 -12:00 – Morning session

• 12:00 – 13:00 – Lunch

• 13:00 – 15:00 – Afternoon session

Two identical sessions will be held in the morning and afternoon to provide more flexibility for families. Families can stay for the full day, or take part in whichever session suits their needs. A creche will also be provided to make the event as accessible as possible for families.
