Dr Karin Schwarz

Karin trained in Yorkshire and has been a consultant paediatrician at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust since 2001. She works mostly as a neonatologist but also sees older children as outpatients. She is the local Lead Consultant for their large level 2 local neonatal unit.

Karin has an interest in quality improvement in neonatal care and is trained in investigating incidents at local level. She works closely with her local obstetric team, the regional neonatal network, and the national neonatal audit to ensure they maintain and improve patient care locally. On her unit they aim for high clinical standards and the implementation of developmental and family centred care fostering close relationships with the families they are looking after.

Karin’s other interests are in the training of paediatricians, and she has just completed her term as Head of School for Paediatrics in Yorkshire and the Humber.
