Dr Sandra Newbold

Dr Newbold qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, in 1983, and started her Obstetrics & Gynaecology training in 1984.  During her training she rotated through a number of hospitals in the UK and New Zealand.  She also undertook a long period of research into fetal monitoring, which culminated in her thesis for which an MD was awarded in 1993.

In 1996 Sandra became a full time NHS consultant at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, where her focus was on High Risk Obstetrics, including running the obstetric diabetes service.  She was also the Labour ward lead, in this busy department with a level 3 neonatal unit

Having ‘retired’ she has continued to work for the Trust on a part time basis, and has combined this with a number of other roles. In 2019 Sandra spent some time training obstetric clinicians in Liberia.  From 2019 – 2022 she supported CQC Hospital visits as an Obstetric Specialist Advisor.  She was also part of the Ockenden review team  and a chapter lead for the independent review of maternity services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital.
