Elaine Frail

Elaine is an experienced midwife and Professional Midwifery Advocate. She trained as a Registered General Nurse and practised in a District General Hospital before training as a midwife in 1987. During her 35 years of midwifery, she has worked in all areas of the maternity service, including 10 years in the community, before transferring in to the Delivery Suite.

Elaine worked as a Practice Development Midwife, training midwives and maternity support workers before participating in the development of a co-aligned Birth Centre in a London hospital, where she currently works. She has been actively involved in recruitment of all levels of maternity staff and the support of junior staff and students.

As a Supervisor of Midwives and later a Professional Midwifery Advocate Elaine is privileged to be able to listen to women’s birth experiences and share the feedback and learning within the maternity unit. She has a keen interest in patient experience and intrapartum care.
