Emma Rajakrishnen
Emma has been a dedicated midwife since 2008, beginning her career after completing her midwifery degree in Italy. She holds a Master’s degree in Midwifery from the University of Dundee, where she conducted research on optimising vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) in the United Arab Emirates, which was later presented at an RCOG conference. Since 2009, Emma has worked in various clinical settings across the NHS and abroad, gaining extensive experience in maternity care.
Emma is passionate about quality improvement in maternity services. She led the implementation of the continuity of carer project at a maternity hospital, driving better outcomes for women and families. Currently, as Head of Quality at Leeds Integrated Care Board (ICB), Emma collaborates with system partners to support providers in quality, safety, and improvement activities, overseeing risk, strategy, equity, and patient safety.
Emma is also the founder of the Elythia Project, which supports Romanian women navigating the UK maternity system, helping them achieve healthy pregnancies and positive experiences. With professional experience spanning Italy, the UK, and the UAE, Emma has led various quality improvement initiatives, continually striving to improve maternal care and outcomes.
