Maureen Hayton

Maureen is an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP). Based at St Mary’s hospital in Manchester for 5 years, which is a 69 bedded unit. She is on a medical rota, within a complex large team, covering 3 areas: NICU, HDU, labour ward plus Postnatal Wards. Maureen qualified as a nurse 32 years ago and has 21 years of experience in Neonatal Care working at different units, across Yorkshire too.

Maureen completed extended training in advanced skills at a master’s level, 4 years ago. She shows autonomy but ensures the safe and effective delivery of high standards of care. Communication skills and strong leadership are vital. She is keen to support junior staff and is involved in teaching within the unit and improves care by supporting audits and research.

She is passionate about the neonate and their families, also involved in Family Integrated Care (or FICare) which promotes a culture of partnership between families and staff, enabling and empowering parents to become confident, knowledgeable and independent primary care givers.
