Kate Heard
Kate started work in the NHS in 2003 and is currently employed as a Patient Safety Incident Investigator and Family Liaison Lead within a large acute trust. She has worked in a variety of midwifery roles and Trusts ranging from labour ward midwife to community midwife, fetal medicine specialist midwife and since 2015 roles specialising in maternity management, risk, governance and patient safety.
This has enabled Kate to work alongside colleagues across many disciplines and departments, not only across the South Coast and London but also with regional and national teams looking at the patient safety agenda for the NHS. These roles have provided her the opportunity to meet a wide range of patients and their families including supporting those where care may not have gone to plan. Kate is passionate about the maternity and neonatal service and also ensuring patients and families are fully involved in their own care. Kate also enjoys supporting staff to share areas of good practice with colleagues and also to implement improvements in care where needed.
