Review Update

Since the Review started in September 2022, 2,031 families have joined the Review. As we welcome the 2025 New Year Donna Ockenden, Chair of the Review, and the Review team would like to send their warmest wishes to all Review families. We hope that 2025 brings you peace, happiness and good health.

Next Family Meeting – Saturday 1st February

The next Family Meeting will be taking place at the Mercure Nottingham Sherwood Hotel. There will be two meetings on the day, both will cover the same content so you can choose to join us at either 10am-12pm, or 1pm-3pm

At the families’ meeting on 1st February 2025, we will be joined by staff from the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). These organisations are responsible for setting the standards that doctors, nurses and midwives in the UK need to meet to deliver safe care. They can also investigate a professional’s fitness to practise when there are concerns about them not meeting these standards. If required, they will take action to address these concerns to protect the public. They will explain more about their work and what you can do if you have concerns about the care provided by a doctor, nurse or midwife. They will answer any questions you may have about this, and will be able to take your details to arrange a follow-up call or meeting if you would like to discuss an individual case.

Speakers: Donna Ockenden, representatives from Nottinghamshire Police, the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and the Family Psychological Support Service.

Attendees: Local & National Charities, Nottinghamshire MPs, Regional journalists.

You do not have to speak to any journalists unless you would like to.

Attending does not require you to publicly speak, but there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions if you would like to.

Charity of the Month – Zephyr’s

We are always looking for different ways to support families who are part of the Review. January’s Charity of the Month is Zephyr’s.

Born out of love for their son Zephyr who died just before he was born, Zeph’s parents Carly and Martin imagined a place in which grief, love and understanding could sit hand in hand. Zephyr’s charity is community focused, and enables bereaved families to find support and connection in each other. Their offers of specialist baby loss and child bereavement counselling are strengthened by the creative and holistic approach to nurturing their community. Inclusive sessions and workshops include yoga, crafts, woodworking, wellbeing walks, regular evening support drop ins, and seasonal celebrations. In Spring, Zephyr’s will be collaborating again with FPSS, Family Psychological Support Service, to offer monthly group sessions for those in the Review, please watch this space, or get in touch to find out more.
