May 2025 – Update Newsletter
Review Update
Since the Review started in September 2022, 2,360 families have joined the Review.
The Review will close to new cases on the 31 May, 23:59pm. You can find more information about this on the ‘announcements’ page of our website. This will explain what this means for families in the Review, and for families across Nottinghamshire that haven’t yet come forward to share their experience.
In the coming months, the Review team will be publishing a series of short videos to explain ‘What to expect’ after 31 May. These videos will replace the monthly update videos. We aim to cover: Feedback, Grading, Maternity Experiences, Op Perth, and the Family Psychological Support Service. If there are any other topics that you would like us to cover, please let us know via email.
Next family meeting – Saturday 14th June
The next family meeting will be taking place on Saturday 14 June, at the Mercure Nottingham Sherwood Hotel, Mansfield Road, NG5 2BT.
You can attend at either: 10am-12pm or 1-3pm. Please let us know which session you will be joining, and how many people will be attending with you, by emailing: events@donnaockenden.com
It has now been confirmed that the speakers for the day will be: Donna Ockenden (Chair of the Review), the Family Psychological Support Service (FPSS), Nottinghamshire Police (Op Perth), the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the General Medical Council (GMC), and Sands United FC Nottingham.
Donna Ockenden will update families on what the next stages of the Review will be, following the closing of the Review to new cases on the 31 May. This will provide an opportunity for families to ask any questions, if they would like to. The next Family Meeting after 14 June, is expected to take place on Saturday 13th September 2025.
Charity of the Month – Child Bereavement UK
We are always looking for different ways to support families who are part of the Review. May’s Charity of the Month is Child Bereavement UK.
Child Bereavement UK helps families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. They support children and young people (up to the age of 25) when someone important to them has died or is not expected to live, and parents and the wider family when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying. They offer free, confidential bereavement support for individuals, couples, children, young people, and families, by telephone, video or instant messenger, wherever you live in the UK. They also offer face-to-face support from a number of locations. Their confidential Helpline is available to respond to calls, Live Chat or email from 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday (except bank holidays). If you would like to talk to someone or are interested in support, call their Helpline or email them. For Live Chat, please visit their website.
