Philip Abata
Mr. Abata is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, serving since March 2021, with a rich background in obstetric and gynaecological practice. He trained in Nigeria, becoming a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaeology) in 2012. After relocating to the UK in 2014, he retrained and earned membership in the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2016. His journey at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, began in 2015, where he progressed through roles from Trust Doctor to Senior Registrar, Specialist Doctor, and now, Consultant.
Mr. Abata leads the Induction of Labour service and the Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) program at QAH, underscoring his leadership in multidisciplinary education and obstetric care. As an Educational Supervisor, he is committed to nurturing the next generation of clinicians. His dedication to patient safety and high-quality, compassionate care is central to his practice.
He has substantial experience managing high-risk cases, including complex deliveries and women with significant comorbidities, and is driven by a commitment to improving women’s health, fostering collaboration, and continuously seeking areas for improvement to deliver patient care that is both safe and satisfying.
