Family Meeting – Saturday 21st March

Thank you to all of the families that attended the family meeting on Saturday 21 March. We were joined by: Donna Ockenden (Chair of the Review), Nottinghamshire Police, The Family Psychological Support Service, The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Zephyr’s, Birth Trauma Association, Aching Arms, Masic, and Sands United FC Nottingham.

Donna Ockenden spoke about the launch of the final report and suggested an agenda for the day, family feedback and meetings with the clinical team, and when families will receive their family feedback. The next family meeting will take place on Saturday 9 May, the first half of the meeting will follow previous schedules with different speakers throughout. The second part of the meeting will be attended by the Trust, as requested by families.

    The Final Report

The final report refers to the written document which explains why the Review has taken place, what our findings were, and what improvements the Trust should make.

Will I see the final report before it is published?

We are not able to share the final report with families prior to the launch date. This is to ensure that the messaging that is conveyed to all families is released via one source so that we are able to answer questions that families in the Review may have about the report.

How will I know if what happened to me will be included within the report?

The Review team will make contact with you if we would like to include a summary of what happened to you within the report. This will be anonymised. You will have the opportunity to read this and provide feedback.

    Publication and launch

We value family voices and hearing your perspective on what the launch day of the final report will look like. This is your Review and report. Please email nottsreview@donnaockenden.com with your thoughts.

    Community Engagement

On Friday 20 March, the Review team attended the Sands United FC Nottingham Awards Ceremony to celebrate the positive impact they have had on the local community. The Chair of the Review presented a special recognition ward. On Tuesday 31 March, the Review team celebrated Muslim Heritage Month in Parliament with Nottinghamshire ladies, and Baroness Gohir.

Family Feedback and publication of the report – what to expect

The below information is relevant to families included within the main part of the Review.

The report will be published in June 2026 (date to be confirmed). The report will outline the Review’s findings, incorporating anonymised analysis from family experiences. Any family whose experience is included within the final report will be contacted to ask for their consent for use. Families will receive correspondence of notification of the final report, with information about how to opt out of receiving Family Feedback.

All families will receive individualised Family Feedback unless they opt out of this process. Family Feedback is the term that we use to describe the communication that you will receive in relation to your specific experience/case. The Feedback will address your experience, and whether this was in line with best practice in place at the time.

    Opting out of Family Feedback

We recognise some families may not want to receive their feedback which is perfectly fine. If you do not wish to receive your feedback please opt out. You will be given the opportunity to opt out upon notification of publication.

When will I receive my Family Feedback?

We will aim to send family feedback following publication of the report, up until the end of September 2026. Due to the number of families in the Review, we are not able to share all family feedback at the same time so we expect this to take place over a 3 month period in the order families joined the Review.

Community Engagement – Iftar 25th February

On the 25 February, the Review held an engagement evening at Nottingham Women’s Centre to join with Muslim women and their children for Iftar. The evening was well attended, and provided the Review with the opportunity to meet with many women across Nottinghamshire to show our support and reinstate our commitment to listening to and amplifying all voices.

    Family Meeting – Saturday 21st March 2026

The next family meeting will be taking place on Saturday 21st March. We expect to host these family meetings every 8 weeks, to help keep families updated in the lead up to publication (June 2026). We will continue to hold these meetings until December 2026. If you would like to attend the meeting in March please email: events@donnaockenden.com

    Thank you

Thank you to all of the families who were able to attend the family meeting on Saturday 17 January. Donna Ockenden, Chair of the Review, gave an update on the progress of the Review and provided information on what to expect in the lead up to publication of the report (June 2026). The General Medical Council (GMC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) provided an update on what they have implemented since the last family meeting. Families spoke about secondary victims, and improving play parks so that they are accessible to all children. Donna is currently in conversation with the Integrated Care Board (ICB) about the period of time that the Family Psychological Support Service (FPSS) will continue to be commissioned for, to ensure that it continues to meet family needs even after the Review publishes.

    Listening to your feedback

We recognise that many families are either not able to attend, do not want to attend, or do not feel able to attend the family meetings. We do not want any families to feel as though they are missing out on important information, which is why we are committed to publishing the PowerPoint slides on the website. Nottinghamshire Police (Op Perth) have published their slides on the portal. We will continue to host family meetings every 8 weeks until December 2026.

    Community Engagement

On Sunday 18 January, Donna Ockenden attended four church services across the Majority Black Led Churches. It is important to the Review that we engage with all community groups across Nottinghamshire to ensure that all voices are heard and amplified through the Review and we will continue to engage with community groups following publication to ensure that improvements are made at the Trust that reflect the population’s needs.

    Family Feedback

Many families have asked the Review team questions about their Family Feedback – what does this mean? When will they receive their feedback? When will the report be published? Family Feedback will be shared with families following the publication of the report (June 2026). We expect to have sent all Family Feedback by the end of September 2026. We will notify families of the publication of the report, and will provide information about how to opt out of receiving family feedback for those families that do not wish to receive this.

    Support over Christmas

    Dear families,
We recognise that as we near the end of the year, some families in the Review may find this time especially difficult. We want you to feel supported by the Review team, FPSS, and the many support organisations and charities that provide their services both locally, regionally, and nationally. This newsletter is a reminder of the support that is available, should you require this at any time.

A message from the Family Psychological Support Service

“We appreciate that Christmas can feel a particularly difficult time when you are managing your own grief, trauma and distress. You may be feeling overwhelmed, upset or finding it hard to balance expectations with your own feelings. It is okay to be finding the festive period and build up difficult. The Family Psychological Support Service can provide support during this time even if you do not feel you require ongoing support. We can provide one off spaces to talk through what is happening, or focus in on developing skills to manage a stressful period. We can also arrange to start a journey with us, which may include individual therapy, either a space to offload or something more structured. We are also starting activity focused peer group sessions in January and can provide a wider range of support for areas of life affected by your experience – including advice on accessing benefits, community based support and in addition trauma informed yoga. Please get in touch if you’d find a conversation useful, this is completely at your pace, and it is also fine if this is a one off. We want to ensure you can get what is right for you at this time.”
