  • Women’s Whispers

Women’s Whispers is a grassroots, Leeds-based community organisation led by and for ethnically diverse women. The organisation has established experience delivering trauma-informed crisis intervention and structured, in-depth support for women and families experiencing violence, coercive control, and complex trauma, particularly those excluded from mainstream provision due to language barriers, cultural stigma, poverty, or insecure circumstances.

Women’s Whispers has delivered immediate safety and wellbeing support alongside trusted, relationship-based emotional care. This has included providing culturally appropriate emergency support such as food parcels, clothing, household essentials, gas and electricity top-ups, period poverty supplies, baby items, emergency phones and data, and essential household goods. These practical interventions have been paired with emotional support delivered in women’s first languages, ensuring accessibility, dignity, and trust at points of acute crisis.

Alongside crisis support, Women’s Whispers has delivered peer support and creative, therapeutic workshops that enabled women to process trauma, rebuild confidence, and reduce isolation.

Women’s Whispers has also delivered community-based outreach and awareness activity. All delivery has been grounded in trauma-informed principles, prioritising safety, empowerment, peer connection, and cultural competence.

Overall, it provides a safe, informal space to reduce isolation, remember lost children, and support mental wellbeing.

  • Carers Leeds

Carers Leeds is a citywide charity supporting unpaid carers since 1996. They provide information, guidance and support to adult and parent carers across Leeds, including through their Support Line, one-to-one support, groups, and support in hospitals.

They have a strong presence in health settings. The workers support carers and staff at key points in a patient’s journey, helping identify carers early, offering guidance, and ensuring carers are recognised and involved in care and discharge planning.

They work in partnership with health and social care services to improve outcomes for carers, using their experiences to influence positive change locally and nationally.

Unpaid carers in Leeds can contact Carers Leeds by calling their Support Line on 0113 380 4300 (Mon, Wed, Thu and Fri – 9am – 4.30pm and Tue: 9am – 6.30pm) or by visiting their website, where you can book an appointment, chat to them via webchat, request a callback or email Carers Leeds.
